About This Project

Logging On / Logging Off was created to keep parents sharp and kids safe in today's digital ecosystem. Navigating technology can be challenging, but with the right information and a few consistent boundaries, families can use the internet more intentionally and with confidence.

🎯Our Mission

Logging On / Logging Off was created by a software engineer who writes about technology, attention, and how kids experience the internet.

This site exists to help families navigate digital parenting without guilt or panic. Parents aren't failing; they're navigating systems designed to hold attention. You don't need perfect rules; you need a few consistent boundaries and ongoing conversations.

Our approach is calm, practical, and supportive. No moralizing. No fear mongering. Just clear guidance for real families.

💙Our Values

No Guilt, No Panic

Parenting in the digital age is hard enough. We focus on practical solutions, not judgment.

Calm, Intentional UX

This site rejects engagement dark patterns. No infinite scroll, no autoplay, no manipulative design. Just clear, helpful information.

Kid-Safe by Default

The Kids Zone has no ads, no accounts required (unless parents approve), and no embedded social media. It's designed to be safe and simple.

Evidence-Based

We link to reputable sources: Common Sense Media, FTC, NCMEC, AAP, and others. We don't make up facts or spread fear.

🎨Design Notes

This site is designed to feel like the friendly, trustworthy internet of the 1990s—think school resource pages, library websites, or educational CD-ROMs. The retro aesthetic is intentional but not ironic. We use:

  • Beveled buttons with clear hover states
  • Folder-like sections with tab headers
  • Dotted dividers and boxed content areas
  • Simple, readable typography
  • Primary color palette (red, blue, yellow, green)
  • No dark mode by default (light, friendly backgrounds)

The goal is to create a calm, intentional user experience that rejects modern engagement dark patterns. This is not a parody or meme—it's a deliberate design choice to support the site's mission of helping families navigate technology thoughtfully.
